As their website whistles, "All Aboard!" the historical flare decorating this train station turned restaurant announces the same- near audibly.  Stories of Liberty Station's history and of Bedford, VA unfold with each glance, including an old upright piano, my personal favorite.

"Liberty Station, was established in 2001 as a full-service, locally owned and operated eatery. It, as part of Bedford's Centertown, is on the National Register of Historic Districts. Unfortunately, a fire in September of 2009 destroyed much of the Station. The stone walls, witnesses to 121 years of history, remained. A proud and caring community offered help of every kind, and a remarkable team of craftsmen allowed Liberty Station to reopen in February, 2010." Reference - oldelibertystation.com

In our travels, we had passed Liberty Station before, yet it was closed for a holiday.  Being in the area again, its memory entered into our train of thought, so we headed back to the station for another try. (Choo! Choo!)  It was a particularly blustery, cold evening, making a warm, cozy spot to eat even more appealing.

Not only was the environment cozy and fun, the staff friendly and professional, but the food was excellent.  We especially enjoyed the two-toned bread bowl served with one white half, one brown half, and flavored butter before receiving the main entrée. We were told they have several flavors of butter they continually rotate; ours was raspberry – mmmmm, scrumptious!

The servings were large enough to share, which we often prefer doing.  We had a uniquely superb dish consisting of ribeye and tortellini in a divine sauce. On the menu, you will find it as, “Stroganoff Tortellini - Seasoned prime rib diced in a creamy stroganoff sauce, served over cheese-stuffed tortellini accompanied by a house or Caesar salad.”

The quality was top-notch!

To end this uniquely charming dining experience, we were gifted free dessert, because it was our first visit! We elected to try the brownie dessert that comes with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. :)

My dear dad worked for a railroad, before entering his long -time career as a fireman and Fire Chief. Knowing he would find this place intriguing, I had to take some pictures for him before we left.  We definitely recommend anyone traveling near or through Bedford, VA, try out Liberty Station, it’s certainly a stop worth making!

Reading the history of Liberty Station was especially fascinating. This can be found under ‘History’ on their website.
