Through It All - A Testament of Faith

This title is life applicable, isn't it? Everyone's 'all' may look different when it comes to challenges and flat-out difficult times, but the common ground is certainly 'going through'. Not stopping. Not giving up. In scripture, we read from Paul that "We also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope" (Romans 5:3-4).

When we come to the entrance of a tunnel, we immediately expect an opening that leads to an exit on the other side. When we are nearing the exit of a tunnel, we see the light that's ahead. We go through the tunnel. Wow, am I thankful for the times that I was able to see the light! Whether I saw it coming or was seemingly plunged right through, light was light, and I was out of the dark and all that was surrounding me! So thankful!

Through it all. Through each tunnel, some very dark, I learned to lean into the Lord through reading His word, praying, worshiping, and yes, sometimes barely breathing while desperately clinging by a thread to the hem of His garment. If it had not been for His strength, I do not believe I would have exited into the light but rather remained in darkness and trapped in ultimate destruction.

This reminds me of a song that I often heard in my childhood, "Through It All". Written by Andrae Crouch (1942 - 2015) and released in 1971 by Manna Music, this song has stood the test of time, having been used in both Southern Gospel and Contemporary Christian Music - crossing genres and age groups.

Crouch wrote a great number of gospel songs that have been widely used and cherished. These specific lyrics, "Through it all. Through it all. I've learned to trust in Jesus, I've learned to trust in God" have rang true, echoing throughout the tunnels of life. I am not sure what Crouch was going through when he penned these lyrics, but I certainly have lived enough to learn that we can (and should) look to Jesus in the midst of anything and trust Him through it all.

Reflecting on this timeless treasure, I sat at an old Kimball grand piano not too long ago and played and sang Through It All. As I did (and do every time this song comes to my spirit), I felt such a sweet embrace from Jesus, simply being reminded of His steadfast love and truth. (Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Hebrews 13:8).
