Baby Shower Fruit Tray Carriage and Cream Cheese Fruit Dip

When you are asked to bring a fruit tray to a baby shower, your wheels start turning; perhaps literally if you're a husband-and-wife team who combines efficiency with aesthetics.

Our friend, who organized a baby shower at our church, sent us a picture of a watermelon cut into the shape of a bassinet. It was so cute! We looked at the picture, studying the creative details, and immediately loved the idea! Plus, the selections of fruit are endless, and who doesn't enjoy snacking on fruit? Yum!

We were not sure if we could find a full-size watermelon since it was early March, but thankfully, we did! Watermelon, pineapple, red and green grapes, blueberries, raspberries, and strawberries... Oh my!

Jeremy took one look at the scalloped edges, and I knew with him being a builder, he wanted to grab a blade and begin cutting. We cleaned out the watermelon, made the cuts, and started prepping the fruit.

I gathered the ingredients for the fruit dip and got out the mixer. This fruit dip recipe is so delicious that we ended up making two batches—one for the shower and one just for ourselves!

Cream Cheese Fruit Dip

Ingredients

  • 1 8 oz package of cream cheese, room temp

  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Beat together the softened cream cheese in a mixing bowl until it’s smooth and creamy.

  2. Add in powdered sugar and mix well.

  3. Pour in the vanilla extract and mix.

  4. Pour in lemon juice and mix well.

  5. Serve immediately or refrigerate until ready to serve.

Before long, our fruit tray transformed from a bassinet into a carriage—complete with wheels, handle, and all!

The trickiest part of this fruit-filled creation was deciding what to use as a pacifier, since we didn’t have an actual one. We experimented with several different fruits before settling on a piece of watermelon rind, as it was sturdy and everything else we tried quickly turned to mush!

We definitely laughed throughout the process. We laughed a lot! And, we enjoyed eating a lot of fruit! - Get in my belly!
